How to Split Audio by Silence Automatically
Do you have one long audio file with multiple songs or recordings inside it, each separated by silence? You don’t need to cut every track out by hand. NeonWaves can split audio by silence automatically, turning one long file into clean, individual tracks in seconds!

How to Split Audio by Silence: Step-by-Step
- Drag and drop your long audio file into NeonWaves.
- Go to Edit, then Auto-Cue, and click Cue Audio Starts by Silence.
- NeonWaves scans the file, finds the silence, and creates cue points at each track boundary.
For example, a 27-minute recording containing several separate tracks with silence between each one gets its boundaries mapped out automatically, without you touching a single cut.
Reviewing and Renaming Your Tracks
Once the cues are created, go to the Cue List. Here, you can:
- See every detected section at a glance
- Preview each track before exporting
- Rename individual tracks if you want cleaner file names
This step is worth a quick pass before exporting. It’s much faster to rename a track here than to sort through a folder of generic file names afterward.
Exporting Your Split Tracks
Once everything looks right, click Save as Audio, choose your destination folder, and export. NeonWaves saves each detected section as its own file, so your one long recording becomes a set of separate WAV files, ready to use.
When This Feature Saves You the Most Time
Splitting audio by silence is especially useful when you’re working with:
- Full albums recorded as one continuous file
- Long interview recordings with pauses between segments
- Multiple voice memos or takes captured in a single session
- Any long audio file where silence naturally separates one section from the next
Instead of manually cutting and saving every track, NeonWaves handles the detection for you. Then you just review, rename, and export!
