How to Improve Audio Quality Fast in NeonWaves
A recording that’s too quiet or full of background noise is hard to listen to, even if the content itself is great. NeonWaves makes it easy to fix both problems and improve your audio quality in the same session, no need for separate tools or complicated settings.
Here’s how to do it easily. You can also watch this video here:
Getting Your Audio into NeonWaves
Drag and drop your audio file into NeonWaves, or click the Record button and start speaking. Either way, your audio appears immediately, ready to edit, with no import steps required.
Step 1: Fix the Loudness
If your audio sounds too quiet, start by fixing the volume.
- Go to Transform, then Amplitude.
- Choose either Normalize or Amplify.
- Click Apply.
Normalize vs. Amplify: What’s the Difference?
- Normalize brings your audio’s loudness up to a safe, consistent level without pushing it past a healthy headroom, a good default if you just want your audio to sound properly loud without risking distortion.
- Amplify gives you direct, manual control over the volume increase, which is useful if you know exactly how much louder you want the audio to be.
For most recordings, Normalize is the simpler choice, since it handles the loudness calculation for you.
Step 2: Remove Background Noise
Once the volume is sorted, it’s time to deal with any background noise in the recording.
- Select a short section of the audio that contains ONLY the background noise, no speech or music, just the noise itself.
- Go to Transform, then Filters, then Noise Reduction.
- Click Capture from Selection. NeonWaves analyzes that section to learn what the background noise sounds like.
- Click Apply.
- Select the entire recording.
- Click Apply once again.
NeonWaves uses the noise profile it just captured to remove that same background noise from your full recording.
The Result
After normalizing (or amplifying) and applying noise reduction, your audio comes out clearer and more consistent. From here, it’s ready for any further editing you want to do, whether that’s trimming, adding effects, or exporting the finished file.
